A little history

I’ve been working professionally for 15 years, but I’ve been doing something creative for as long as I remember. When I was little, my best friend Allan and I (who shared the same birthday) would spend hours drawing. We mostly drew dinosaurs, because Jurassic Park was huge and everyone had subscriptions to Dinosaurs! magazine.

I began taking paid gigs during high school; then while studying communication design at uni, I ran the print and design department of a Townsville studio. Looking after three large format printers, a laminator, laser cutter and plenty of clients. I fell into advertising a while later as a studio designer in Brisbane. Though I didn’t enjoy rolling out other people's work, so I knuckled down for two years and became an art director.

Since then, I’ve worked on almost every medium, independently and with teams, at a bunch of agencies, while developing side projects and launching products; and winning a few awards along the way.

What gets me excited

Table tennis, snakes and a fifth season of Arrested Development. But more importantly; education, waste reduction and sustainability hold significant interest to me, and I'd love to be more involved in these areas.

Creative process

I strive for effectiveness, not just a clever ad; something that will solve a problem, change a perception or win a heart. I'm inherently honest, pragmatic and an avid follower of the 'measure twice, cut once' philosophy (which infuriates my girlfriend). But I believe working smarter and not harder; benefits the team, the client and the work.

Capabilities

My skill set is integrated or T-shaped (a term I'm borrowing from Valve); which translates to 'a broad range generalist with deep expertise in a few areas'. My specialties lie in conceptual problem-solving, art direction and graphic design. And my broader experience expands to typography and illustration; digital design and user experience; animation and motion graphics; brand identity and development; as well as process workflow and efficiencies.

But, what exactly can I do?

I'm asked this a lot, and coincidentally my answer is "a lot." I'm not an art director that struggles on the tools. I can own a project from start to finish; create the concept, execute the design, roll out the art across channels; and in a pinch, write some copy too.
